It’s never too early to start preparing for the SAT. While summer vacation is meant to be a break from school, it is also an ideal time to start preparing for test day. You don’t have to spend your summer indoors with your nose stuck in an SAT study book, but there are simple ways to make sure you are better prepared for your exam. We, here at The Tutoring Center in Oviedo, have some suggestions you can follow this summer to make sure you’re prepared for the SAT.

Make a Study Schedule

Your summer doesn’t have to be spent studying, but make sure you schedule time each week to get some studying done. Once or twice a week for a couple hours is a decent amount of studying, but you can do more if you would like. Make sure you schedule your studying for specific hours so you won’t put it off or get distracted by other activities. Decide what areas are your weakest and make a study plan that focuses more on those areas. Take time to review areas you consider strengths in order to keep that information fresh as well. Sticking to your schedule will not only help you cover material but also helps build up your attention span and focus.

On-the-Go Learning

If you plan on heading out of town with your family over summer break, take materials with you that will help you prepare. An SAT Book is not the only way to study. Look for other materials that are fun and helpful. Reading can help you build a better vocabulary and help strengthen your reading comprehension. Take a book with you to the beach or read while lounging poolside. Your studying doesn’t have to be done alone; invite friends over to practice math problems and vocabulary flashcards. Look for games and puzzles that can help your critical thinking skills and challenge your friends. Set up challenges, benchmarks, and rewards to motivate you to get through your studying.

Take Practice Tests

One of the best ways to kick start your study plan is by taking a practice test. The results of your practice test will show you what areas you need to work on more and which areas you have mastered. Take a practice test at the beginning of summer to see where you stand and make goals you would like to accomplish by the end of summer. Use your results to draft a summer study plan that you can stick to. Continue to take practice tests throughout the summer to measure your growth as well as to strengthen your endurance in preparation for the duration of the exam, as well as reducing test anxiety. Take one final practice test at the end of summer and compare your results to the first one.
